Austin, TX – March 18, 2019 – RIOS, the multi-disciplinary award-winning LA-based design firm, announced today it has established a new office in Austin, Texas. The Austin studio marks the second location for the firm expanding outside the California market and supports the firm’s local projects while integrating into the culture and DNA of Austin.
Best recognized for designing LA’s most iconic and prominent public spaces including Grand Park, The Hollywood Bowl, Columbia Square, ROW DTLA and the upcoming Music Center Plaza renovations, the firm’s portfolio of work extends beyond Los Angeles with transformative projects in Austin, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, New York, Mexico, and beyond.
“The opening of our Austin location emphasizes RIOS’ commitment to serving this community we’ve been working in since our first project a decade ago,” said RIOS Creative Director and Founder Mark Rios. “We see a great alignment in Austin between place-based design and the needs of our clients.”
“Our first project in Texas, Austin City Limits, was a monumental project for our practice, and since then we’ve continued to grow our relationships with the community working on projects in Austin such as 600 Congress, HomeAway, Drake Bridge Commons, 901 E. 6th Street, and more,” said RIOS Creative Director, Andy Lantz. “Establishing roots in this city is an important evolution for our business as we look to further foster our relationships in the community.”
Established in Los Angeles in 1985, RIOS is highly-regarded for their transdisciplinary approach to design with teams working collaboratively across disciplines including architecture, landscape architecture, graphic design, interior design, branding, product design and urban design services in residential, commercial, early education, municipal and hospitality industries.
The firm is known for their community advocacy within Los Angeles and beyond, placing an emphasis on design storytelling as a method of stewardship of the local communities they design in and celebrating the many facets that make places vibrant and diverse.
With various projects in the works within Texas, including Jones Plaza in Houston, and Drake Bridge Commons and HomeAway in Austin, a physical presence will allow RIOS to connect with the local community and embed their value of a strong collaborative approach to the design process in Austin and beyond.
