RIOS transforms Singapore Changi Airport’s Terminal 2 transit area into the Fit&Fun Zone, an innovative 400-square-meter wellness sanctuary that responds to travelers’ emotional and physical needs. The design reimagines the typical layover experience through a series of choreographed experiential zones, bringing color and joy to create a unique travel environment in one of the world’s premier airports. In collaboration with 8Build, RIOS integrates sculptural elements that double as functional exercise features throughout the space.
The project draws from research into travelers’ commonly experienced emotions, identifying five distinct states—anxiety, frustration, exhaustion, excitement, and the need for peace. Instead of a conventional layout, RIOS designs a whimsical environment where each zone’s unique color palette and activities create an ecosystem that supports both emotional and physical well-being.
In the Green Zone, floating pendulum chairs hover above Dreamscape’s digital ceiling and a lush garden of 20,000 plants, creating a serene space for meditation and respite. The Yellow Zone features 3.5-meter-tall trampoline pods with motion-activated sound technology, encouraging playful movement through an immersive audio-visual experience.
The Orange Zone provides stress relief through three-dimensional petal structures and soft punching elements, while the Pink Zone integrates strength training through an innovative weighted pulley system that triggers responsive light installations. The Blue Zone completes the journey with a nature-inspired rope maze, creating an explorative “cave” environment that sparks curiosity and discovery.
The thoughtfully curated color story serves both wayfinding and psychological purposes, with each chromatic selection enhancing the intended emotional experience. Through this synthesis of movement and emotional design, RIOS elevates the airport wellness experience, prioritizing the holistic needs of contemporary travelers.
