Century City Offices

A Workplace Rewritten in Los Angeles

A Los Angeles investment firm with its headquarters in New York wanted a West Coast office that felt distinct from its main office. The firm’s vision centered on a hyperlocal direction rooted in Southern California hospitality, atmosphere, and place. This created a clear starting point: what defines a Los Angeles experience?

RIOS responded with a material and architectural strategy that brings the city’s geography and design history directly into the interior. The project transforms a conventional office floor into a light-filled workplace that reflects both the city and the firm it supports.

Translating Strategy into Space

RIOS worked closely with firm leadership through a series of discovery sessions to define key priorities. These included high ceilings, abundant natural light, and a workplace experience rooted in Los Angeles culture. From these conversations, a clear design direction emerged. The team translated these priorities into four guiding values: vibe, impression, hospitality, and locality.

Wood runs throughout the space as a material expression of warmth and movement. In addition, flooring direction guides circulation across the plan. Portals reference the way Spanish arches marks transition between zones, while introducing compression, and creating a clear rhythm between openness and thresholds.

A Light-Filled Workplace Interior

A continuous spatial sequence defines the completed workplace. Perimeter glazing draws daylight deep into the full L-shaped plan, ensuring natural light reaches every area of the office.

Private rooms are defined by coffered ceilings, which add acoustic control and spatial clarity. Local artisans crafted custom chairs, rugs, and lighting fixtures. In addition, systems furniture conceals cables and power to maintain a consistent visual language across all work areas.

The furniture selection draws from mid-century modernism, Spanish Colonial Revivalism, and the Arts and Crafts movement. Together, these references are expressed through material choices that anchor the workplace in Los Angeles’ design lineage. The workplace ultimately operates with the warmth and specificity of a curated residential interior.
