Golnaz is an accomplished architect who, as Sustainability Director, guides RIOS’ global response to climate challenges. She drives innovation in regenerative, climate-positive design while fostering multidisciplinary collaboration across project teams.

Her expertise spans the full spectrum of sustainable design implementation, from developing science-based climate initiatives aligned with the Paris Agreement to creating comprehensive frameworks that embed sustainability principles throughout architectural practice. She brings deep experience in advancing projects toward Whole Life Net Zero Carbon, with strength in addressing the complex environmental challenges of both new construction and historic building contexts—demonstrated through her work on landmark projects including London’s Bloomberg Headquarters, Apple Park Campus in Cupertino, and the Stirling Building at the University of Cambridge.

Golnaz’s approach integrates advanced environmental strategies with strong architectural aesthetics, ensuring that sustainability enhances rather than compromises design excellence. Her methodology includes creating institutional frameworks such as sustainability think tanks and design protocols that systematically guide project teams toward climate-positive outcomes across diverse building typologies and cultural contexts.

She holds a PhD from the University of Palermo, where her dissertation won first place in the EDUCATE Prize at the PLEA Conference. She has contributed to university-level design education in Italy, advancing the academic discourse on sustainability in architecture.

Her expertise has been recognized with a finalist nomination in the 2024 WICE Awards. She serves on the IBPSA-USA Research Committee and as an NLA Expert on Net Zero strategies. Golnaz’s human-centered, climate-responsive approach continues to shape sustainable architecture across the UK, US, Canada, China, and Singapore.

Golnaz’s previous experience includes key sustainability leadership roles at BDP, Stanton Williams, and Foster + Partners.
